ACIF – Madeira's Chamber of Commerce and Industry took part on 27 and 28 October 2026 in the launch meeting of the JAREAS project in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands. The international cooperation initiative is co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg MAC 2021–2027 programme.
The project aims to strengthen the competitiveness, resilience and sustainability of small-scale fishing, while promoting marine resources and modernising the sector. It also links fishing with tourism, gastronomy and aquaculture, and stresses generational renewal to attract young people.
For Madeira, the project could help add value to regional fish, open new markets and develop sea-related tourism experiences. The meeting brought together bodies from several Atlantic countries under the motto "From sea knowledge to blue innovation".
