ADN Madeira Denounces Alleged Bad Faith by IDE in Demanding COVID-19 Support Repayments

The ADN-Madeira party has reported receiving complaints from Madeiran entrepreneurs who are being notified to return support received during the Covid-19 pandemic. In some cases, asset seizures and bank account freezes have already been initiated.

According to the party, the Institute for Business Development (IDE, IP-RAM) decided to demand accounting documents after several years, with short deadlines for submission. ADN considers this attitude to be in bad faith, arguing that the IDE was created to support businesses, not to harm them, especially after such a difficult period.

The party advocates for careful inspection to prevent fraud, but with common sense, considering the approximately six years since Covid-19. They suggest longer document submission deadlines to allow entrepreneurs and their accountants time to review "dead files." ADN also warns entrepreneurs not yet notified to prepare for a "last-minute" inspection, possibly carried out before the legal document verification deadline expires.

The party fears that this situation, described as "giving with one hand and taking with the other," could lead to the closure of several small and medium-sized enterprises and generate unemployment.
