The ADN party, represented by Eduardo Quintal, has proposed that the Regional Government, the Republic Government, and producer organizations urge the European Commission for specific monitoring of bananas.
The aim is to assess the fruit's inclusion in the list of sensitive products, as outlined in Regulation (EU) 2026/687, which already covers agricultural products like beef, rice, and citrus. The party argues that safeguard policy should act against a threat, not just after damage has occurred.
ADN also questioned the Regional Government and GESBA about the outcomes of investment in European representation and the preparation of an economic dossier for potential safeguards, suggesting coordination with other ultra-peripheral regions like the Canary Islands.
