The Regional Government of Madeira has welcomed an agreement reached during a strike by REN Atlântico workers. This understanding allowed six liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker containers destined for the island to be loaded at the Sines terminal.
The agreement, confirmed over the weekend, was made with the Union of Workers in the Manufacturing Industries, Energy and Environmental Activities of the South (SITE Sul). The six containers are expected to arrive in Madeira on Thursday. The vessel will unload a total of nine containers at the Port of Caniçal, as three had already been loaded before the strike began on Sunday.
José Manuel Rodrigues, the Regional Secretary for Economy, highlighted the importance of the agreement in safeguarding the Region's supply requirements. He explained that the solution followed efforts initiated before the strike, including requests to the Minister for Environment and Energy for urgent measures. The outcome demonstrates the sense of responsibility shown by the parties involved and the importance of prompt action.
