Alberto João Jardim has expressed support for Filipe Sousa, a JPP deputy and former Mayor of Santa Cruz, following an investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office.
Jardim criticized the "judicialization of Politics" and found it incomprehensible that the case concerning a vehicle rental by the municipality could have criminal repercussions. In a post on social media platform X, he advocated for a constitutional review of the judicial system and the status of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The case involves suspicions of undue receipt or offer of advantage related to the rental of a car from Cassiano's Rent Car. The Public Prosecutor's Office has requested the lifting of Filipe Sousa's parliamentary immunity for him to be questioned as a suspect.
Filipe Sousa denies the allegations, stating he fully paid the invoice and that his mayoral term was suspended during the period in question. Sousa's defense is echoed by Miguel Albuquerque, the President of the Regional Government, who dismissed the case as "nonsense."
