The President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, commended the actions of the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, for expediting the arrival of the second firefighting helicopter to the island.
The aircraft is now in the region and is being prepared to become operational in the coming days, remaining in service until November 30. Albuquerque viewed the helicopter's arrival as a "good result of the minister's visit," emphasizing that although the process was already underway, Neves's intervention, in coordination with the Prime Minister, allowed for its swift deployment.
The second helicopter is being transported to the Regional Civil Protection Service's Air Means Centre in Cancela. The operation, running from October 1 to November 30, is state-supported. Albuquerque highlighted the importance of this reinforcement, recalling that Madeira has experienced significant fires in October, and the aim is to safeguard the territory, property, and population. For the summer of 2027, a second aerial asset is also planned for the three months of the summer season.
