The seabed near Porto Moniz's harbour was the focus of a cleaning operation, as part of the 'Smiling Porto Moniz' initiative. The action aimed to preserve the municipality's maritime space.
The initiative coincided with the 40th-anniversary celebrations of the Blue Flag and involved various entities, including the GNR, the Regional Directorate for Environment and Climate Action, the Porto Moniz Parish Council, Sanas Madeira, the Volunteer Firefighters of São Vicente and Porto Moniz, the Madeira Aquarium, and the Seixal Naval Club, alongside local businesses and primary school students.
The Mayor of Porto Moniz highlighted the mutual support and noble purpose of the initiative, which values and protects the sea, a key asset of the municipality. The local government reiterated its commitment to environmental preservation through concrete actions and public awareness campaigns, aiming to safeguard natural heritage for future generations.
