A second helicopter for firefighting operations is set to arrive in Madeira, with operations scheduled to begin on October 1st and conclude on November 30th. This reinforcement, funded by the state through the Portuguese Air Force, carries a maximum cost of €407,799.82, plus VAT.
The contract, signed last week, includes the provision of a light helicopter capable of carrying five passengers and equipped with a 750-liter water bucket for fire suppression. The aircraft will be stationed at the Regional Civil Protection Service's Air Means Centre in Cancela.
Although its arrival follows the peak summer fire risk period, the helicopter will be available seven days a week, from sunrise to sunset, for missions including water drops, observation, air coordination, and personnel transport. Unlike the currently operating aircraft, this helicopter is not equipped for rescue missions.
