Regional Government President Miguel Albuquerque reiterated the focus on golf as a fundamental strategy to mitigate tourism seasonality in Porto Santo. The statement was made during the inauguration of a regional products store on the island.
Albuquerque noted the strong summer tourist influx, extending into September, but stressed the need to attract visitors outside the peak beach season. The expansion of the golf course, involving an investment of 10.2 million euros and set to begin in October, is considered the most effective response to increase the island's appeal during lower demand months.
The project, slated for completion by 2028, aims to boost tourism, particularly outside the summer period. Additionally, the construction of a new terminal building and the second phase of the health unit, budgeted at 35 million euros, were mentioned as priorities.
