The Anjos Teixeira Gallery, located at Rua João de Deus nº 12 in Funchal, will host a public session on July 23rd at 7 PM.
The event will feature Fr. José Luís Rodrigues, who will discuss the portrayal of the Catholic Church in literature, particularly in the novel "Na linha da pobreza". This event is part of the gallery's "História com estórias" (History with Stories) program, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Madeira's Autonomy.
The aim is to foster dialogue on the symbolic and political role of religiosity in Madeira, exploring how beliefs shape social organization, ethics, and power structures, using Hugo Amaro's latest book as a starting point. The "História com estórias" program seeks to stimulate debate on collective memory construction and identity-shaping factors.
