Areeiro-Pico Ruivo Route Closed for Six Days for Walkway Installation

The trail between Pico do Areeiro and Pico Ruivo will be closed on specific September dates for the installation of a walkway.

The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) has announced that the route between Pico do Areeiro and Pico Ruivo will be temporarily restricted on six days in September. The closure dates are September 14, 15, 16, and 17, and then September 21 and 22.

This interruption is due to operational issues related to the installation of a walkway in one of the areas under construction. The closure prevents the completion of the route on these days, and reservations will not be available. The ban applies exclusively to the stretch between the Pedra Rija viewpoint and Pico Ruivo.

The two-way stretch between Pico do Areeiro and the Pedra Rija viewpoint (PR1 Vereda do Areeiro to the Pedra Rija viewpoint) will remain open, allowing visitors to make the round trip. However, it will not be possible to continue to Pico Ruivo. Outside of this period, the trail remains open daily, operating in one direction only, from Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo, following safety measures.
