ARM Urges Separation of Wooden Packaging for Recycling

Águas e Resíduos da Madeira (ARM) has urged residents and businesses to separate wooden packaging for recycling. This comes ahead of changes to waste acceptance at the Meia Serra Solid Waste Treatment Plant.

As of October 12th, the plant will cease accepting waste containing recyclable wooden packaging. Producers are required to separate these materials before sending their remaining waste for treatment.

Wooden pallets, crates, and other packaging used for transporting goods can be recycled if they are neither painted nor contaminated. These items can be delivered free of charge to ARM's recycling centres. ARM reminded the public that separating these materials at source is a legal obligation and called for cooperation to enhance resource use and strengthen Madeira's circular economy.
