Garrison Regiment No. 3 (RG3) in Funchal is focusing on two strategic priorities: attracting new soldiers and ensuring the retention of existing personnel. This initiative was announced by the unit's commander, Colonel Musa Paulino, during the Regiment's 33rd-anniversary celebrations.
Next week, RG3 will welcome around 60 recruits for the second Common Basic Training Course for Army Sergeants of 2026. This measure aims to strengthen the unit's human resources and meet growing operational demands. The commander also highlighted efforts to promote military careers among young people through programs like 'Enlist for a Day' and organizing National Defence Day.
In addition to attracting new candidates, RG3 is implementing improvements in living conditions, transparency, and leadership to retain soldiers. Investment in training and professional qualification, along with the modernization of infrastructure and equipment, such as barrack renovations and new furniture acquisition, supports the enhancement of operational capabilities. The unit has participated in national and international exercises and contributes soldiers to the NATO mission in Romania, in addition to establishing a Drone Experimentation Cell to develop new capabilities.
