The Bishop of Funchal, D. Nuno Brás, urged attendees on Sunday at the Monastery of Santo António in Funchal to look to God amidst difficulties, reminding them that patience requires a "heart as big as the Lord's".
In his homily, D. Nuno Brás emphasized that "the Lord has patience for everyone," explaining that God "is always waiting" for humans to grow and change, even when tempted to believe God cannot save.
Christian faith, he stressed, recalls God's presence even in suffering and hardship, and that eternal life begins now. The festival included a procession and various religious and cultural activities.
