19-year-old British cyclist Finlay Tarling has died during the eighth stage of the Volta a Portugal after being hit by a vehicle.

19-year-old British cyclist Finlay Tarling has died following a serious accident during the eighth stage of the 87th Volta a Portugal cycling race, which ran between Melgaço and Fafe.

The NSN Development Team rider was struck by a vehicle travelling on the wrong side of the road in the Ponte de Lima area. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the young athlete succumbed to his injuries. The stage was neutralized in his honor, and organizers expressed deep sorrow.

Tarling, from Wales, was the younger brother of professional cyclist Joshua Tarling. He had already achieved notable results in junior categories, including a silver medal at the 2023 Junior European Championships and a bronze at the Junior World Championships the following year.
