Café A Indiana changes hands again, this time to Confeitaria

Ten months after its previous sale, the traditional Funchal café has been bought by the company Confeitaria.

The traditional Café A Indiana, in central Funchal, has changed hands once more. The sale was first reported by Funchal Notícias, which had already announced an earlier transaction on 31 December 2025, to a businessman linked to the Apolo.

Ten months later, the café passes to Confeitaria, a company that already owns several outlets, including the recently opened Felisberta on Rua das Oreta. According to the same paper, the café currently remains unchanged.

Opened in December 1917 and known for its location near the Sé, the Indiana is described as a simple café with affordable prices that has become part of the city centre's daily life. What the new owners will do with it remains to be seen.
