Calheta invests 140,000 euros from tourist tax in new waste collection vehicle

The Calheta Municipal Council has invested 140,000 euros, sourced from the tourist tax, in the purchase of a new vehicle for its solid waste collection service.

This acquisition brings the municipality's operational fleet to ten vehicles, with an eleventh already purchased and awaiting delivery. The investment aims to address the increase in waste production linked to the pressure of tourist activity in the municipality.

According to the Mayor, Doroteia Leça, this measure channels revenues generated by tourism directly into improving local public services, benefiting both residents and visitors. The council is also preparing to hire new workers to strengthen ground teams, as part of a broader strategy to invest in the municipality's sanitation and environmental preservation.
