The Regional Government of Madeira intends to implement controlled grazing as a continuous tool for fire prevention in intervened forest areas.
The strategy aims to prevent land cleared with public funds from becoming overgrown with flammable vegetation again within a few years. Miguel Albuquerque, president of the Regional Government, explained that the intention is to introduce managed and fenced grazing after the removal of invasive plants to ensure area maintenance.
This initiative is part of a broader structural fire prevention strategy, which includes clearing forest paths and acquiring fencing and gates for sensitive areas, with the goal of controlling vegetation through grazing.
