The Mayor of Calheta, Doroteia Leça, stated that the municipality is "open" to businesses from mainland Portugal, inviting them to invest in their "initiatives" and "businesses".
During the opening of the 4th Madeira Food Encounter, the mayor emphasized the territory's qualities, such as climate and soil, and the role of local and regional entrepreneurs. She also highlighted the municipality's strong tourism sector, with approximately 11,500 inhabitants and 6,500 tourist beds, often at 100% occupancy, generating "non-resident traffic" impacting infrastructure.
The event, marking 30 years of Continente's presence in Madeira, brought together agri-food producers and discussed topics like growth, investment, innovation, and the promotion of regional products.
