Afonso Tavares da Silva, CEO of Grupo Leacock and director of CAM, states that revising the assumptions of public transport concession contracts is "absolutely essential" for the future sustainability of companies.
According to Tavares da Silva, the current contracts were not prepared for the surge in fuel and labor costs, nor for the increased demand resulting from free transport, which has significantly raised the expenses for concessionary companies.
The executive spoke at the presentation of eight new electric buses for CAM, an investment of 5.3 million euros, and stressed the need for attention from the Regional and Republic Governments to prevent companies from failing to meet their commitments. CAM also announced an enhancement of the Aerobus service and the continuation of fleet renewal, which has already included 70 new buses and the creation of 30 jobs.
