Camacha to celebrate 32nd anniversary of its elevation to town status in 2026

On September 13, 2026, Camacha will mark the 32nd anniversary of its elevation to town status, with official celebrations at Largo da Achada.

The parish of Camacha, in the municipality of Santa Cruz, will mark its 32nd anniversary of elevation to town status on September 13, 2026. This date signifies an important moment in the locality's history, formalized by Regional Legislative Decree No. 20/94/M, dated September 9, 1994.

Official celebrations are scheduled to take place at Largo da Achada, Camacha's civic and historical heart. The Parish Council of Camacha is organizing the events, which will serve as an opportunity to reflect on the parish's journey from its 17th-century origins to its current status.

The elevation to town status in 1994 recognized Camacha's development, driven by agriculture, the wicker industry, and a vibrant associative and cultural life. The locality's identity is also shaped by its heraldry, featuring elements like the "brinquinho" and wicker baskets, and by hosting what is considered the first football match in Portugal in 1875.
