Caniço Shopping will host the travelling exhibition «Portugal in the European Union — 40 years of a common path» from 2 to 14 November. The initiative is organised by the Caniço Parish Council in collaboration with EUROPE DIRECT Madeira and the Island Geography Association.
The exhibition marks 40 years since Portugal joined what were then the European Communities on 1 January 1986, inviting residents to learn about and reflect on that journey.
The parish council says the aim is to bring European affairs closer to everyday life, from education and employment to the environment, mobility and regional development. For Madeira, an outermost region of the EU, the theme carries particular weight given the challenges of island life. The exhibition is open to residents of all ages and to schools.
