Bernardo Pereira, from Clube Naval da Calheta, and João Ornelas, from Associação Náutica de Câmara de Lobos, have been selected to represent Portugal at the 2026 Paddle Europe Ocean Racing Championships in Brest, France, from August 26th to 30th.
This participation highlights the growing standard of ocean canoeing in Madeira, raising the region's profile internationally. Bernardo Pereira, a World U23 Champion with multiple medals, is a key Portuguese prospect, competing in Men's U23 SS1 and Mixed Senior SS2 with Sara Sotero.
João Ornelas, a Madeiran specialist, will compete in Men's Senior SS1 alongside João Santos. His selection further acknowledges local talent in the sport.
