The opening round of the 2026/2027 football I Liga, which sees Marítimo's return to the top flight, featured positive results for both Madeira-based teams, Nacional and Marítimo.
Marítimo secured a 1-0 home victory against Casa Pia, while Nacional drew 2-2 away to Santa Clara in the Azores, coming back from a 0-2 deficit.
This undefeated start for both clubs, competing simultaneously in the I Liga, marks the first time since the 2012/2013 season. Back then, Nacional drew 2-2 with Vitória de Setúbal, and Marítimo defeated Rio Ave 1-0.
