Preparations for the centenary commemorations of the Milk Revolt, in 2036, will begin this year and extend over a decade. The initiative, announced by the organizing committee on the 90th anniversary of the event, aims to launch a research and dissemination program.
The program will focus on five thematic axes: the people as a political subject, the historical and political importance of peasant revolts, political prisoners and repression, Catholic sectors opposing the regime, and the role of Father Teixeira da Fonte. The goal is to frame the 1936 events within a broader context of social and political contestation during the Estado Novo.
Institutional partnerships with entities such as Galeria Anjos Teixeira, URAP, and CDU will be promoted. A Facebook page has also been created to disseminate information about the project, which aims to establish a path of research and debate over the next decade, rather than a single event.
