CHEGA deputy Francisco Gomes accused the regional government of Madeira of being an accomplice to the blockade that the government of Luís Montenegro continues to impose on changes to the Social Mobility Subsidy, now designated the Territorial Continuity Model.
According to Gomes, the new rules, approved with favorable votes from CHEGA and the PS, have been in effect since June 6th but without practical application by the central government, with the "complicity" of the regional executive. The parliamentarian criticized the regional secretary of Tourism, Eduardo Jesus, for, in his opinion, defending the interests of airlines instead of the Madeiran people.
Gomes argues that the delay in implementation shows that PSD governments use autonomy merely as political discourse and that the regional executive prefers to protect "vested interests" and "cronyism" rather than defending citizens.
