Chega MP Francisco Gomes has accused the Regional Government of Madeira of being "complicit in the blockade" imposed by the Republic Government on changes to the Social Mobility Subsidy, now called the Territorial Continuity Model.
According to Gomes, the new rules, approved with votes from Chega and the PS and in effect since June 6, are not being practically applied due to the "complacency" of the regional executive. The MP criticised the Regional Government's silence, accusing it of "betraying Madeirans in Lisbon and continuing to betray them in Funchal" by placing "political interests above the population's interests".
Gomes directed criticism at the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Eduardo Jesus, accusing him of defending "the interests of airlines and established schemes" rather than citizens. The deputy concluded that the delay in implementation shows that PSD governments use autonomy only as political discourse but "abandon Madeira when it comes to defending its interests with the Republic."
