CHEGA deputy Francisco Gomes advocated for a break from what he perceives as a regional governance focused on vested interests, cronyism, and favoritism. Gomes insisted that Madeira's residents and the concrete problems faced by families should become the top political priorities.
The statements were made during a party visit to the São Vicente festivities. Francisco Gomes stated that Miguel Albuquerque's government is politically exhausted and lacks the capacity to address the region's main issues, such as the housing crisis, healthcare, opportunities for youth, and the quality of life for working families.
Gomes also criticized a social model he believes fails to distinguish between those genuinely needing state support and those able to work but choosing to live on benefits. He argued for a society that is both supportive of those in need and fair to those who work. He concluded by asserting that Madeira requires profound political change based on transparency, merit, and effective improvements in living conditions, with CHEGA aiming for governance that is "fair, clean, and focused on a very simple priority: Madeira's residents first."
