CHEGA-Madeira expressed its "most vehement repudiation" of the statements made by the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, during the 148th-anniversary commemoration of the Madeira Regional Command of the PSP (Public Security Police).
The party considers it "inadmissible" that the ceremony was "instrumentalized by the government official to respond to political controversies and direct attacks against CHEGA and André Ventura." The regional leader of CHEGA-Madeira, Hugo Nunes, accused the minister of "cowardice" and "desperation," stating that he revealed a "serious breach of the sense of state."
Hugo Nunes criticized the minister for, instead of presenting concrete measures to solve problems within the security forces, such as staff shortages and degraded facilities, opting for "verbal confrontation" and "using the Police as a forced audience for personal defense." CHEGA-Madeira reaffirmed its "total and unequivocal solidarity" with the PSP officers.
