Chega (CH) Member of Parliament Francisco Gomes has labelled the proposed State Budget for 2027 as a "political fraud" and a "betrayal of Madeirans." Gomes accused Luís Montenegro's government of failing to provide responses to Madeira's key structural problems, particularly in mobility, security, taxation, agriculture, and fisheries.
The MP highlighted the absence of measures for the full implementation of the Territorial Continuity Model, which aims for fixed airfare prices for residents, and regretted the lack of commitment to a regular ferry service between the island and the mainland. Gomes also advocated for the creation of Madeira's own fiscal system, suggesting it would attract investment and generate wealth, moving away from the current Free Trade Zone model.
Regarding security, the deputy pointed to a lack of initiatives to increase PSP personnel, facilitate professional transfers, and upgrade infrastructure. Francisco Gomes also questioned the government's economic growth forecast, deeming it overly optimistic and warning that the budget fails to address the specific needs of the autonomous region.
