The Madeira Regional Civil Protection Service has warned of an increased risk of rural fires on the island, predicting that maximum temperatures will remain high until at least Tuesday.
Wind could be strong in the eastern and western areas, as well as in the highlands, with gusts potentially reaching 60 km/h, which could facilitate the spread of fires. Relative humidity is expected to decrease, contributing to dry vegetation and conditions more favorable for ignition and rapid fire propagation.
Given these forecasts, Civil Protection recommends adopting preventive measures, such as avoiding the use of equipment that can cause sparks in rural areas and refraining from camping in forest zones. Hikers are alerted to the risk of dehydration and sunstroke. It is reminded that bonfires and burning are prohibited between April 1st and October 31st.
