The Funchal Municipal Chamber's (CMF) responsibility for maintaining the exterior gardens of São Lourenço Palace is not a recent development. Consulted documentation, including administrative commission minutes from 1939 and press reports from the era, indicates that the CMF was already undertaking works and landscaping in these areas decades ago.
Decisions from August 1939 detail the construction of walls, railings, and the arrangement of lawns around the Palace, stemming from an agreement with the then Civil Governor. Contemporary press, such as Diário de Notícias, covered the renovation works that transformed the Palace's surroundings, with photographs documenting the demolition of old walls and the creation of the gardens.
