Companhia 48, an inclusive performing arts project established in 2020 by the Hospitaller Sisters of the Holy Family in Funchal, was presented at the II International Congress on Social Inclusion in Marseille. The project, which brings together around 80 children, young people, and adults with disabilities and mental health conditions, was highlighted as an example of how art can foster autonomy, participation, and inclusion.
The congress, organized by Hospitality Europe on September 30 and October 1, gathered approximately 250 participants from various European countries to discuss themes related to self-determination and social participation for vulnerable individuals. The presence of Companhia 48 in Marseille, represented by its Artistic Director Marco Vieira, Sociocultural Animator Cristina Gonçalves, and participant Alexandre Gouveia, underscored the importance of giving voice and decision-making space to individuals supported by institutions.
Funded by the Funchal City Council, Companhia 48 uses music, theatre, dance, and visual arts as tools for expression, creation, and skill development, enabling its participants to showcase their abilities and talents.
