Construction of the Madeira SkyPark, a project between Curral das Freiras and Jardim da Serra, begins today, 2 November, with public opening planned for 2028.
The development includes two cable cars, an adventure park, a nature interpretation centre and a 2,300-metre zipline, along with support facilities and local retail. It expects around 200,000 visitors a year and is being developed under a fifty-year public concession with an investment of €48.5 million.
The company says the project should create about 50 direct jobs during operation and aims to spread tourism into the island's interior. It also states that measures are planned to protect local fauna and flora, including the Madeira wood pigeon.
