The round-the-world voyage of the residential ship Villa Vie Odyssey has been suspended by its US operator because of a sharp rise in fuel costs. The cruise was meant to last three years and call at ports on every continent, but its future is now uncertain.
According to the company, monthly fuel costs per cabin have risen from a historical average of about $1,800 to estimated figures between $6,000 and $8,000 in some parts of Asia, which it attributes to the war in Iran and higher energy prices. The suspension was announced on 27 October in Cambodia, forcing more than 200 residents to leave the ship temporarily.
The earlier schedule included stops at Porto Santo and Funchal in November 2027. On a destinations page updated on 20 October 2026, the confirmed itinerary no longer includes Madeira, which appears only in a preliminary second circumnavigation with a Funchal call planned between October 2028 and January 2029. The company acknowledges that no financing has yet been secured for its restructuring.
