The Diocese of Angra has announced that collections from masses held on July 11th and 12th in all Azorean parishes will be allocated to support victims of the earthquakes in Venezuela. This decision aims to mobilize the Azorean Catholic community in a show of solidarity with the populations affected by the catastrophe.
The Sanctuary of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres in Ponta Delgada will also channel last Sunday's collections for this cause. The Diocesan Caritas of Angra has already sent an initial financial aid of 2,500 euros to Caritas Portugal, which will forward it to Venezuela through the Caritas International network. Joint financial aid efforts are being organized with the Caritas organizations on each island.
