The Funchal City Council (CMF) has announced that Doca do Cavacas Beach, also known as Poças do Gomes, will be closed to the public from June 22 to 26. The closure is necessary for the replacement of the distinctive wooden pedestrian bridges at the bathing area.
One of the bridges has been closed for safety reasons since May 2025, while the other is significantly deteriorated due to adverse weather conditions. Frente MarFunchal apologizes for the inconvenience during the bathing season but emphasizes that the work aims to improve safety and the overall enjoyment of the beach.
The operation involves installing six beams, each weighing approximately 500 kg, using a crane from the land above the beach. This complex process, coupled with difficult access, delayed the intervention, which has only now found a viable solution and a suitable supplier.
