Dozens of passengers were forced to spend the night at Porto Santo Airport following a chaotic night marked by multiple flight diversions that could not land at Madeira Airport due to strong winds. A lack of hotel capacity on the island meant many remained in the terminal.
Eight flights bound for Madeira were rerouted to Porto Santo, including easyJet services from various European cities. Other flights were diverted to Lisbon, the Canary Islands, and Tenerife. Adverse weather conditions continued to affect air operations on Sunday, with slight improvements forecast but winds remaining a conditioning factor.
