A driver, who worked at Madeira Airport, died on the Via Rápida after his vehicle was hit by another that crossed the barrier.

The driver who lost his life in an accident on Madeira's Via Rápida has been identified as Edgar, an employee at the island's airport.

Edgar had recently returned to Madeira after emigrating to England. A friend, quoted by Funchal Notícias, shared on social media that he wanted to be closer to his mother, stating "money isn't everything".

The tragic accident occurred when a vehicle crossed the central barrier and collided with Edgar's car, which was in the opposite lane.
