The duplication of the express road between Ribeira Brava and Calheta has been announced as the second most important project for the next decade in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, following the construction of the new Central and University Hospital.
Pedro Rodrigues, the regional secretary for Equipment and Infrastructure, revealed that the project is already in preparation, with an initial investment exceeding two million euros. The intervention aims to duplicate the current express road and extend it to the Calheta municipality, covering Ponta do Sol and including a connection to Canhas.
Rodrigues justified the project by the high traffic intensity on this road axis, making it the one with the highest average daily traffic among Madeira's express roads. He also announced the requalification of Regional Road 222 in Canhas and the future promenade between Ponta do Sol and Lugar de Baixo.
