The Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, has advocated for the creation of a 'Classic Day' in Madeira. The aim is to encourage owners of classic cars to use them daily, thereby increasing the visibility of this heritage.
Jesus believes inactivity is the greatest enemy of classics and, despite existing initiatives, there is a lack of encouragement for these vehicles to be driven. He proposed establishing a specific day, such as "the first Tuesday of each month or the last Thursday of each week," for owners to use their historic cars for everyday travel.
The official also highlighted the importance of preserving classics in the face of the transition to electric mobility, viewing them as valuable historical records. He revealed that Madeira now possesses its own collection of about a dozen historic automobiles, recovered from government services, marking a step towards establishing a future museum dedicated to the sector.
