Education Strengthens Childcare Support and Addresses Teacher Shortages

The Regional Secretariat for Education, Science and Technology has announced the hiring of 47 additional early childhood support technicians. In response to an announced strike, Elsa Fernandes stated that a proposal will be sent this week to address the technicians' demands.

Approximately one hundred teachers are leaving the system, with 38 retiring and 85 taking positions on the mainland. The Secretariat assures it is working to resolve the situation and ensure no child is left without classes.

Regarding the professionalization course for teachers, which did not proceed this year at the University of Madeira, the Secretary explained that conditions have changed and the course will launch next academic year, allowing applications from teachers with school contracts.
