Estreito Theatre Workshop Celebrates 10 Years with Premiere of "The Government Inspector"

The OFITE celebrates a decade of theatrical activity with the premiere of "The Government Inspector", an adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's work.

The Estreito Theatre Workshop (OFITE) is celebrating its 10th anniversary with the premiere of the play "The Government Inspector", an adaptation inspired by Nikolai Gogol's satirical work. The production will be staged at the Estreito Civic Centre on October 16th and 17th at 9 PM, and on October 18th with performances at 5 PM and 7 PM.

The play depicts a small town where the arrival of a supposed government inspector causes panic among local authorities, who try to hide their mistakes and abuses. "The Government Inspector" is a comedy of errors that, through humor and absurdity, exposes corruption, abuse of power, and hypocrisy – themes that, according to artistic director Zé Abreu, remain surprisingly relevant.

This premiere also marks a decade of OFITE's dedication to theatre, valuing collective work and community engagement. The company has focused on presenting landmark works, reinforcing its commitment to cultural creation and dynamism on the island.
