The travelling exhibition “Madeira and the European Union”, promoted by MEP Sérgio Gonçalves and the Association of Municipalities, was inaugurated in Ribeira Brava. The initiative is part of the commemorations for the 40th anniversary of Portugal's accession to the then European Economic Community.
The exhibition, which has already visited several municipalities, features infographic content on the history of European integration and its impact on Madeira's development. It covers topics such as European treaties, community funds, and the region's status as an outermost region.
Sérgio Gonçalves highlighted the exhibition's role in reflecting on the EU's importance for Madeirans and the need to advocate for European instruments tailored to Madeira's specific characteristics, particularly amidst negotiations for the future European budget. After Ribeira Brava, the exhibition will move to Ponta do Sol in November.
