The National Association of Teachers – Madeira Section (ANP Madeira) held the II Funchal Education Conference, focusing on research into the identity of Christopher Columbus.
The initiative, in partnership with the Funchal Municipal Council and part of the 37th anniversary celebrations of Escola Básica dos Louros, featured historian and writer Manuel Rosa. The session explored different interpretations of the navigator's origin and identity, with Rosa presenting a hypothesis that challenges the traditional narrative, highlighting the significance of Portugal and Madeira.
Manuel Rosa, who holds a doctorate in Insular and Atlantic History, has been researching Columbus since 1991, utilizing historical archives and documentation from various countries. ANP Madeira plans further initiatives for November and December, aiming to connect schools with culture and research.
