The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere forecasts a significant increase in fire risk in Madeira, reaching the maximum level on Saturday, July 4th.

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has updated the Forest Fire Risk Index (FWI) for Madeira and Porto Santo, indicating a worsening trend in the coming days, in line with hot weather warnings.

For Friday, July 3rd, the risk increases in the interior of Madeira island, with areas in the very high (red) class in the central and southern mountainous regions, and high (orange) in the central-western mountainous zone. Porto Santo drops to moderate risk (yellow).

Saturday, July 4th, is predicted to be the day of highest risk, with a point in the maximum (purple) class in the central mountainous area of Madeira and another in very high (red) in the same region, further to the west-central. The remaining areas of Madeira and Porto Santo remain at moderate risk (yellow).
