France, Spain and Portugal align on outermost regions' demands for 2028-2034 budget

The 30th conference of outermost regions' presidents in Guadeloupe strengthened cooperation ahead of the next EU multiannual financial framework.

The 30th Conference of Presidents of the Outermost Regions (RUP) was held on the island of Guadeloupe from 5 to 7 November. Participants described it as a key moment for strengthening cooperation between the regions, the three member states involved and the European institutions.

In a joint statement, representatives of the regions from several countries said this collaboration is essential to defend the interests of the outermost regions in ongoing European negotiations, in line with a joint letter from the three heads of state and government dated 28 September.

The signatories call for an outermost-regions perspective to be built into the preparation and negotiation of relevant European initiatives, so that their specific characteristics are taken into account. The statement thanked Guadeloupe for its hospitality and wished Madeira success as it takes over the conference presidency.
