Luís Filipe Santos argues that inspecting social housing protects public assets and ensures fairness for those in need.

Funchal Councillor Proud of Social Housing Origins

Funchal Municipal Chamber councillor Luís Filipe Santos stated he is "very proud" of his origins in a social housing neighbourhood, following criticism of his stance on the issue.

Santos advocated for increased oversight in social housing areas, including economic reassessments of beneficiaries, clarifying that "inspecting is not persecuting" but rather "protecting social housing, ensuring responsible management of public assets, and ensuring justice for those who truly need a home".

The statement coincided with Santos voting in favour of the Funchal Local Housing Strategy revision for 2025-2030. He noted that his favourable vote does not prevent him from "questioning, inspecting, or demanding answers", highlighting the 2,812 families awaiting social housing in the municipality.
