The JPP party brought its concerns about the use of electric scooters in the city to the Funchal City Council, citing "misuse" and the resulting disruption to traffic and safety.
JPP councilwoman Fátima Aveiro argued that the municipality should play a more active role in organizing this form of mobility through awareness campaigns, enforcement, and rule compliance checks, in addition to creating adequate parking.
The councilwoman also mentioned incidents reportedly leading to hospitalizations and questioned insurance coverage, but the Council responded that it lacks authority on the matter, citing licensing issues.
