The councilor responsible for Health, Helena Leal, highlighted the Funchal Municipality's commitment to disease prevention and the promotion of health and well-being.
Leal emphasized that the municipality has increasingly focused on promoting health, longevity, and active aging through physical activity, mobility, sports facilities, and public spaces. Municipal interventions also include screenings and awareness campaigns.
The councilor stressed the importance of food and health literacy, stating that "a more informed population is better prepared to recognize risk factors and adopt preventive behaviors."
Leal also mentioned the partnership with SESARAM and the Public Health Unit, highlighting projects like "Diabetes in Motion" and the planned implementation of a multidisciplinary intervention model for obesity. The Funchal Municipality reaffirmed its role as "an active partner in building a healthier and more inclusive city."
